Christmas movies have a very special place in my heart. They belong to Christmas just as much as the decoration or the biscuits do. So once it's the day after Sunday of the Death, my movie marathon starts. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm a sucker for all the Hallmark movies. Is there any better thing to do then lying on the couch with a hot cacao, eating gingerbread and watching a cheesy Christmas movie? Even though I love all the classics like Love Actually, Elf or The Santa Clause, my heart belongs to the soppiest movie of all, A Christmas Kiss. Even though I have it on DVD and BluRay, I would wake up at 4 AM just to watch it. And yes, this happened before. Gosh, I just love this movie so much.
2. Have you ever had a White Christmas?
I'm lucky to say that we had several White Christmases throughout my life! The coldest winter I ever experienced was in 2010. The whole country was covered with a blanket of snow. I'm dreaming of a white Christmas this year but we had a long summer, the temperatures are still too high for this season and I doubt that we'll have snow.
3. Where do you usually spend your holiday?
At home with my family.
4. What is your favourite Christmas song?
This is probably the trickiest question of all. There are so many Christmas songs that I love, how am I supposed to chose only one?! Impossible, so have a few of my favourites from my Christmas playlist (which consists of more then 100 songs) instead! The songs are in no particular order.
Wham! - Last Christmas
Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone
Chris Rea - Driving Home for Christmas
Michael Bublé - It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Michael Bublé - Cold December Night
Michael Bublé - Holly Jolly Christmas
Michael Bublé - Let it snow
Michael Bublé & Idina Menzel - Baby it's cold outside
Idina Menzel - Do you hear what I hear?
Olaf's Frozen Adventure - When we're together
Disneyland Paris - Chante, c'est Noël!
Melanie Thornton - Wonderful Dream
Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmastime
Queen - Thank God it's Christmas
Dean Martin - Let it snow
5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
I feel like opening Christmas presents on the First Day of Christmas is an American thing to do. At least I know nobody who doesn't open their Christmas presents on Christmas Eve in Germany. So yes, I do!
6. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Blitzen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Vixen and Rudolph.~
7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?
Our Christmas Eve tradition! My family and me will go to church and watch the nativity play together. Afterwards we'll have our traditional Christmas dinner - fish and potatoes with herb sauce! It's weird, I usually hate fish but it seems like there is some kind of magic that makes it delicious on Christmas Eve. After dinner, we'll open presents and eat cake. Then we'll spend the evening together in the living room, watching Christmas concerts, laughing and talking until midnight. The next morning, my personal Christmas tradition starts - Christmas movies all day long in comfy Christmas PJs!
8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Fake! Our Christmas tree is older then me, I asked my dad and he said they bought the tree around 36 years ago. It's the most beautiful tree of all and many people have mistaken it for a real tree.
9. What is your all-time favourite holiday food/sweet treat?
Gingerbread and gingerbread men!
10. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?
I would be lying if I said I don't like receiving gifts. BUT! I do like giving more. To me, finding the perfect presents is a science. I like calling myself one of Santa's elves, haha. I observe, investigate and search for the perfect gifts, which I start collecting months advance, usually in October. So yes, it's extremely satisfying to me when I manage to make someone happy and see/hear/read their joy. My presents are thoughtful and always on point. I would never give a voucher to someone, and if I did, it would mean that I don't like the person.
11. What is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?
Hmmm... I love all the Christmas gifts I receivd but if I had to chose, it'd be my Cinderella live action doll from Mattel. She's very special to me and will never fail to put a smile on my face when I see her.
12. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
Disneyland Paris or Disney World!!
13. Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?
Pro-present wrapper, of course. All my presents are wrapped in pretty Disney Princess/Frozen/Fab5/Winnie Pooh wrapping paper and brightened up with bows.
14. Most memorable Holiday moment?
That one time when there were 38 presents under our tree.
15. When did you realise the truth about Santa?
I didn't exactly believe in Santa - we had the Christ child. Me and my brother believed in it for a loooong time.. The children who didn't believe in it wanted to convince us that it's just an old wives's tale but our faith was indestructible. Our parents were extremely convincing. I have to admit - I still don't know how they managed to put the presents under the tree. We had the tradition to look out for the star of Bethlehem - the brightest star in the sky. Our parents were both in the room with us when we were looking for it. Once we found it, the bell that hung on our balcony rung - as if someone entered the living room! Then we run inside the living room and found our presents under the tree. I was around 9 or 10 when we found out the truth.
16. Do you make New Years resolutions? Do you stick to them?
Yes and no. I want to do more sports but I never stick to this resolution, haha.
17. Use one noise to describe how excited you are for Christmas.
18. You have been granted one Christmas wish…what will it be?
"I'm gonna find that girl, underneath the mistletoe and we'll kiss by candle light!" I'm a hopeless romantic when it comes to Christmas and my biggest wish for Christmas is a cheesy Hallmark love story in my own life. Orz.
19. What makes the holidays special for you?
There is so much that makes Christmas special to me. You can literally feel the love in the air. People are nicer, they spend time together at the Christmas markets, there is a feeling of joy in the air. Oh and the smell! You can smell candy, gingerbread, biscuits, spice and fir everywhere you go! I also love the decoration. Even if it's cold and dark outside, the windows are decorated with lights and pretty pictures. And if that's not enough - there are Christmas songs everywhere! It's no secret that I have a strong feeling of disgust towards the music from nowadays. Basically, my music taste is very simple: Disney songs, 70s/80s, Mamma Mia and Christmas songs. What I love most about Christmas songs is that most of them have the pure reason to bring joy to the world. The lyrics make sense. It's not the same one line for three minutes straight. Christmas songs are like balm for my soul and ears.
And let's not forget one of the most important parts of Christmas - it brings people (and families) together. I barely see my brother throughout the year so it only makes sense that it's one more reason why Christmas means so much to me.
Quote of the Day: "The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is singing loud for all to hear." -Buddy (Elf)
